The Florida International University Scholarship Fishing Tournament is a one day, offshore tournament featuring fishing for Dolphin. The University’s Alumni Association organizes this event and the NET proceeds go towards a scholarship program for students of the University. In addition to recognizing our 2015 Alumni Association Scholarship recipients, the Dock Party will be open to the public and feature music and activities. For a small fee, guests will be able to enjoy unlimited food and beverage sampling.

Background

The tournament, established in 2002, is a unique fundraising event benefiting the FIU Alumni Association's Scholarship Fund. Funds are raised through sponsorships and boat registrations. Scholarships include the Legacy Scholarship, awarded to students whose parents, grandparents or siblings are graduates of the University and the Panther Pride Scholarship awarded to students demonstrating outstanding involvement in campus life and activities. The cost to participate in the tournament is $400 per boat with a maximum of four anglers and $50 for each additional angler in the same boat.

The tournament features fishing for Dolphin, however, prizes are also awarded for the biggest fun fish, which include Wahoo, Tuna or Kingfish.

Paw Wall

STUDENTS RALLY BEHIND A CAUSE

Members of the Student Alumni Association have gathered items for a "Paw Wall," which will be featured at the 13th Annual Fishing Tournament.

The wall will feature numbered Paws, which correspond to different prizes. Guests can contribute a donation to select a Paw, which will win them a mystery prize guaranteed to be valued higher than the cost of the Paw. For example, a Paw costing $25 could win participants prizes like a $50 restaurant gift card, dinner for two at Sonesta Hotel & Suites and a baseball bat autographed by Logan Morrison. Plus, the funds raised by Paw purchases directly support student scholarships.

Student Alumni Association President Grethel Miro said, "the Paw Wall is a win-win situation for all involved. Guests are able to enjoy great prizes and students receive additional funds for scholarships."
