Dear FIU family,

What a special moment for FIU in the Miami-Dade Commission yesterday: For the first time, an FIU alumnus will chair the commission! Jean Monestime, the commissioner representing District 2, was unanimously elected by his peers to lead this important decision-making body. Commissioner Monestime is a 1995 graduate, with a degree in finance.

And his vice chair? Another FIU graduate: Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr., from District 13, who graduated in 1987 with a degree in political science.

Beside their own degrees, Chair Monestime and Vice Chair Bovo have a total of four family members currently attending FIU!

 If ever we are to see first-hand the impact of our efforts to educate our community, here it is! Rejoice in the success of our graduates! For their success is our success!
