“Effects of Everglades Restoration on Sea Level Rise Resilience in Urban Miami” moderated by Evelyn Gaiser, PhD, Professor of Biology, FIU
Dr. Evelyn Gaiser is a professor of Biological Sciences and Interim Executive Director of the School of Environment, Arts and Society at Florida International Research. She is an aquatic ecologist who studies the ways in which ecosystems transform in response to climate change and human activities. She is an expert on algae and their role in wetlands, particularly the Everglades. Dr. Gaiser has studied the Everglades for more than 15 years, and directs the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research (FCE LTER) Program. This program, sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation, explores the ways in which the Everglades is changing in the face of sea level rise and freshwater restoration. She will talk about how scientific studies of the Everglades are helping guide restoration efforts in Florida and other coastal ecosystems around the world, and why freshwater restoration is so critical to sustaining ecosystems and human activities in South Florida as sea level rises.
Museum admission rates apply. $7 adults, $5 seniors and student, free for members.
