After graduating, Matthew Kunkle ’14 was looking to do something beyond himself, something that would truly make a difference.
With previous volunteer experience at the Special Olympics and a passion for fitness, Kunkle thought of ways he could combine his background in order to assist special needs organizations & athletes.
That’s how Miami Might came to be.
Miami Might challenges people to “show your strength” in more ways than just physical. What does that mean exactly? Well, Miami Might’s goal is to raise awareness, sponsorships and donations for Special Needs in Miami-Dade County through a weight lifting competition. Participants can partake in the actual competition, volunteer during the event, donate to the cause or register as a sponsor.
This event provides an opportunity for the community to come together and support a great cause, all while enjoying some good-natured competition.
A year from now, Kunkle is hoping to have engaged the whole community through Miami Might. He’s also looking to create after school projects for impoverished school districts with the goal to aid these students in pursuing further education.
The 2nd annual Miami Might is coming to FIU’s “Keeping Charge” Crossfit Box (located in PG6) on November 14, and we’d love to see you representing the FIU community. Join their cause: participate, volunteer or sponsor and show off your strength today!
