The FIU Alumni Board of Directors has formally elected Juan Carlos Alexander, Esq. ’04, to serve as president for the 2023-2024 year and inducted seven new members. Gina Duarte-Romero ’91, M.Ed. ’08, will remain on the board as the immediate past president.
“I look forward to working with the rest of the board to help advance FIU’s mission,” said Alexander. “We know that continued involvement from alumni must be earned, and not expected. The Alumni Board of Directors is committed to making it easier for alumni of all backgrounds to engage and stay connected.”
Alexander earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from FIU’s College of Arts, Sciences & Education in 2004 and went on to earn his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law in 2011. After his start in the legal field, Alexander transitioned into the business sector, joining LAS Worldwide, LLC, as president in 2017. LAS Worldwide specializes in the distribution of electronics and liquor in the travel retail sector, specifically airports and cruise lines, throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Alexander, a long-serving member of the FIU Alumni Board of Directors, will use his leadership and experience to continue elevating board engagement and giving. Alexander is a Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity member and a proud supporter of FIU Athletics.
Sara DuCuennois, Chief Alumni Officer, lauded Alexander’s years of service and welcomed him to the new role as president.
“FIU Alumni make up one of the largest and fastest-growing alumni communities in North America. Our volunteers assume a significant responsibility to represent our alumni community. We are thrilled to see our board grow and elevate their work to not only help move FIU forward, but also to be of service to our alumni—our largest constituency group at the university.”
The FIU Alumni Board of Directors also inducted seven new Directors who look forward to engaging with the FIU alumni community of over 300,000 Panthers.
