On Thursday, March 31, the FIU Department of Architecture hosted the 3rd Annual Eco Couture Recycling Fashion Show, which drew more than 1,000 guests from the fashion and design world, the Miami community and FIU.\u00a0The evening\u2019s Master of Ceremonies was home designer, lifestyle expert, TV host, and magazine contributor\u00a0Martin Amado<\/a>,’96<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

$2000 in scholarships were available to student-contestants from all majors at FIU.<\/p>\n

The winners of this year\u2019s fashion show were:<\/span><\/p>\n

First Place: $1,000
\n<\/span><\/strong>Laura de la Vega
\n<\/span>Sharit Ben Asher
\n<\/span>Andrea Canaves
\n<\/span>Materials<\/strong>: plastic bags and 3D print draft<\/span><\/p>\n

Second Place: $500 |\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>People\u2019s Choice: $200<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Susana Alonso
\n<\/span>Materials<\/strong>: white plastic grocery bags and plastic bottles<\/span><\/p>\n

Third Place: $300
\n<\/span><\/strong>Cindy Rodriguez
\n<\/span>Materials<\/strong>: eggshells, beer bottle caps, magazines, zipper, and hot glue<\/span><\/p>\n

The first, second, and first place prize winners were chosen by the esteemed panel of judges, which included:

\n<\/strong>Margarita Blanco, ASLA, LEED AP<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Director, ArquitectonicaGEO<\/a>
\n<\/strong>Mari\u00e1n de la Fuente<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Journalist and Spanish news presenter
\nCandela Ferro<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>TV Personality and Fashion Savvy
\nBarbara Hulanicki, OBE RDI<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Designer
\nRene Ruiz<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Fashion designer
\nDr. Constance Silver<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Acclaimed psychoanalyst, social worker, and artist
\nAjani P. Stewart<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Environmental Programs Manager from the City of Miami Office of Sustainable Initiatives<\/p>\n

The show featured a variety of outfits that are completely made from recycled materials. The event, which was created with the purpose of promoting sustainability through fashion, strives to educate and inspire the community about good recycling habits and an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. This year\u2019s runway showcased more than 30\u00a0outfits, all of which are\u00a0reusable. In attendance were\u00a0<\/span>Brian Schriner (Dean,\u00a0FIU\u00a0College of Architecture + The Arts) and\u00a0<\/span>Jason Chandler (Chair, Department of Architecture).<\/span><\/p>\n

All proceeds from this event went towards scholarships for students in the FIU Department of Architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Eco Couture Recycling Fashion Show is hosted by Event Founder, Artistic Director, and FIU Architecture alumna Amira Ajlouni \u201914 and Event Partner, Artistic Director, and current Architecture graduate student Jennifer Luis. <\/b>The 3rd Annual Eco Couture Recycling Fashion Show was sponsored by The FIU College of Architecture + The Arts, the FIU Office of University Sustainability<\/span><\/a><\/strong> (Gold Sponsor), Berenblum Busch Architecture<\/span><\/a><\/strong> (Gold Sponsor), HKS<\/span><\/a><\/strong> (Bronze Sponsor), Catering by Les<\/span><\/a>, the FIU Department of Architecture<\/span><\/a>, MIA Beer Company<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, and Dadeland Mall (Simon Malls)<\/span><\/a><\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n
