Please join the FIU Alumni Association in coming together\u00a0#FIUstrong to support our community in this time of great need.<\/p>\n<p>FIU alumni in the South Florida area who are\u00a0interested in helping the relief effort\u00a0can\u00a0find information below on items\u00a0urgently\u00a0needed by those recovering from the disaster and where to donate them.<\/p>\n<p>To those alumni living outside of Florida who\u00a0are\u00a0interested in helping the relief effort: Please consider making a donation to the FIU Foundation&#8217;s #FIUstrong initiative. One hundred percent of the money raised will go directly to Operation Helping Hands in the Panhandle. To make a donation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fiustrong.fiu.edu\/give-now\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">please click\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Panther Spirit,<\/p>\n<p>Duane Wiles<br \/>\nAssociate Vice President, Alumni Relations &amp; Annual Giving<br \/>\nExecutive Director, Alumni Association<\/p>\n<p>_________________________________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The following message was sent the university community on Tuesday, October 23:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nearly two weeks ago, Hurricane Michael devastated areas of the Florida Panhandle leaving 36 dead and tens of thousands displaced or homeless.<\/p>\n<p>Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this storm that rivaled Hurricane Andrew in its strength and power. Last hurricane season was one of the worst in recent memory for South Florida and we learned many important lessons about our capacity to help each other and serve as a beacon of light during the darkest of moments.<\/p>\n<p>As a caring community that takes responsibility and helps others when they need it the most, we came together #FIUstrong. Now, it\u2019s time to come together #FIUstrong, once more, and help our friends and neighbors in the Panhandle.<\/p>\n<p>Today, FIU is joining Miami-Dade County\u2019s efforts to collect hurricane relief supplies for the victims of Hurricane Michael. The county has identified a list of the most urgently-needed items.\u00a0<strong>Please do not bring clothing or perishables \u2013 only the items on the list below will be accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What to donate<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Baby supplies \u2013 formula, diapers, baby food and wipes.<\/li>\n<li>Food \u2013 canned food, water, Gatorade, juice boxes, snacks and pet food<\/li>\n<li>Essentials \u2013 toilet paper, flashlights and batteries, cleaning supplies, paper towels, bug spray and first aid kits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Donations can be dropped off at the following campus locations from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday, October 27. Donations will also be accepted on Sunday, October 28 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>MMC<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student Academic Success Center (SASC) lobby<\/li>\n<li>Graham Center Welcome Center<\/li>\n<li>Parking and Transportation office lobby in PG5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>BBC<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wolfe University Center information desk on the first floor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FIU Disaster Volunteers will be on hand to help prepare all donated goods for pick up. This team of trained and motivated FIU students, faculty and staff are routinely called upon to assist the university with all disaster-related tasks.<\/p>\n<p>The FIU Foundation will also be collecting donations for those affected by Hurricane Michael through our #FIUstrong initiative.
