“I graduated…so, now what do I do?”
Many recent graduates are faced with this daunting question not long after commencement and don’t exactly know how to answer it.
“We find that when FIU students graduate they feel somewhat abandoned or lost by the system. What do they do next? And how do they acquire and achieve their job goals after school has ended?” shared Grace Llan Quevedo ‘97.
Knowing there was need for programming of this kind, FIU alumni Llan Quevedo and Carmen Sabbagh ’79 created the workshop “You’ve Graduated, Now What?” as a way to adequately prepare graduates for this next step.
On April 2nd, about 15 recent graduates attended the workshop and heard from these Human Resource professionals with invaluable career advice to impart.
Designed to help graduates who may be struggling with entering the workforce, the topics discussed included job market research, resume types, resume and reference building, and the dos & don’ts of an interview. There was also an open forum to address any other career related questions the graduates may have had.
It doesn’t end there. Some attendees even continue communicating with Llan Quevedo and Sabbagh months after the workshop for continued resume and job search advice.
Missed this year’s workshop? Keep your eyes peeled because Llan Quevedo and Sabbagh plan to make “You’ve Graduated, Now What?” a yearly occurence!
