As a pioneer for women leaders in the insurance industry in Florida, Marylu Miller was at the forefront of changemaking. Miller graduate from FIU with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and Visual Art in 1990, and found herself with a new post-career endeavor as a volunteer art docent in Prescott, Arizona. There, she taught elementary school students about art history, and mobilized local teachers to integrate the arts into the classroom. Her passion for education was rewarded as the Docent of the Year award by the Phoenix Art Museum. Miller thought hard about her legacy and wanted to continue to make a change in students’ lives. She chose to give back to the institution that helped her expand her own education. Miller made a planned gift of $1.25M to establish the Mary L. Miller ’90 Scholarship Endowment to ensure that students have the funds they need to complete their degree. This gift represents how one change-maker’s passion for education will continue to make a difference for decades to come.
