FIU is ending the alumni email for life benefits. With this change, you will no longer be able to log in to your FIU email and send or receive emails.
The decision to stop offering lifetime emails was based on two primary factors: 1) a decrease in overall usage by our alumni community and 2) the strengthening of our cybersecurity while also achieving cost savings opportunities for the university.
The updated email policy also aligns with the best practices of many public universities and is becoming an industry standard in higher education.
What's changing?
The university has decided to end lifetime alumni email accounts and transition to time-limited account access. Alumni will now have access to their FIU email, OneDrive, and other services linked to their account for two years. Please be advised that your account may be closed before the two-year mark for inactivity.
The two-year period begins when an email account holder has graduated is classified as an alumnus or alumna.
Important information for existing alumni
If you became an alumnus in Spring 2022 or before, your account will be closed on June 1, 2024. However, if you became an alumnus or alumna in Summer 2022, your account will be closed after the add/drop date for Fall 2024.
Stay connected with FIU and update your email with FIU’s Alumni Association using this form.
