Isabel Griffin PhD '19

Biography

Isabel Griffin, PhD, MPH is an Epidemiologist within the Office of Blood, Organ, and Other Tissue Safety in the Division of Healthcare and Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Griffin has a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Miami, and a PhD in Epidemiology from Florida International University.  She is a former Epidemic Intelligence Service officer with the Enteric Disease Epidemiology Branch within the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases at CDC. Prior to working at CDC, she spent six years in Miami working as an outbreak epidemiologist with the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County.

She is an epidemiologist with over 10 years of experience in outbreak investigations, data analysis, and disease prevention. As an outbreak epidemiologist, she led the investigation of several large-scale infectious disease outbreaks including: 2015 Nontuberculous Mycobacterium associated tattoo infections, 2016 Zika virus, and 2017 Norovirus at a mass gathering event. She has experience leading data management teams (2022 Monkeypox, 2020 COVID-19, and 2016 Zika virus outbreaks), designing surveillance systems, and public health research. Summaries of her research and outbreak investigations have been published in MMWR, Pediatrics, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
